Brickpits Pond

Frog spawn in Brickpits pondBrickpits Pond, once at a corner of Prestwood Common, may have been created by the digging of clay to make bricks, a prominent part of the local economy in the 18th and 19th centuries.  It has some locally scarce plants and every year attracts hundreds of frogs, but is prone to dry up early, probably because water drains away too quickly since it was surrounded by modern housing.  It needs constant clearing out with the help of the Chiltern Society Volunteers.
